thursday thirteen

Yep, it must be Thursday, and I must be bored! I haven't done a 'Thursday Thirteen' entry in awhile. Thankfully, my days this Summer have been filled with lots of monogramming work, fun lunch dates from time to time, and catching up on some much-needed house cleaning.

To further my house-cleaning motivation...

Thursday Thirteen:
Thirteen Things I Need to Schedule and Clean Weekly

1. Floors. With 2 dogs in and out all day every day, they get so dirty so fast!

2. Glass. You know you do it, too. Leave that tiny toothpaste splat on the mirror in your bathroom 'till next week. It's gross. I need to stop putting that off. Yick.

3. The Fridge. If I can manage to clean out the uneaten left-overs once a week, I won't have mysterious containers hiding out in the back of my fridge. I am generally pretty good about this, but need to get better.

4. The Dog's Food Bowls. I mean, they're dogs. They'll be fine. It just looks icky.

5. My Sewing Workroom. From the threads that seem to grow like grass in my carpet to the slivers of trimmed fabric, this room desperately needs more attention than it gets in the cleaning department.

6. Kitchen Counter-Tops. Don't misunderstand me - My sweet husband wipes these down nearly every night after he does the dishes (yep, HE does them!), but I really should deep clean them at least a couple of times a month.

7. Toilets. No explanation needed.

8. Dusting. Our amazingly beautiful bedroom furniture sure does collect dust. From my side of the bed, it seems like I can see the reflection of the dust on the dresser at such an angle that it always looks like it's an inch thicker than the night before.

9. The Computer Nook. Since it's in a corner, it collects dust bunnies nicely, and there are always extra paper pieces that "just didn't print right" that need to be thrown in the recycle bin. I just always put it off.

10. The Coffee Table. It's not close enough to the couches to use as a table, so there isn't sticky food or anything on it. Just lots of dust and the occasional Hershey's kiss wrapper from the candy jar.

11. The Dogs. Yep. Especially this time of year. They love to go outside and roll around in the dirt and grass. I could probably eliminate half of the things on this list if I just kept the dogs cleaner!

12. Our Closet. Simple things like picking up that shirt that missed going into the hamper, or arranging the shoes so they aren't in a pile and I can actually see them.

13. The Laundry Area. Since it's in the garage, I tend to neglect it and put it in the "Adam's Area" category. I shouldn't do that. If I straightened it up, I'd probably get done with laundry a lot quicker!

Another thing I haven't done in awhile: High/Low's.

HIGH/LOW'S:

HIGH: Adam has the day off tomorrow!
LOW: We don't have anywhere to watch fireworks yet.
HIGH: God is still in control, even when I don't understand what in the world is happening.
LOW: A tough day yesterday.
HIGH: Getting to go see my mom's new apartment in a little while!

I got my new Sony-A200 DSLR about a week ago. I have had so much fun (trying to learn how to get good at) taking pictures with it! It's a little more daunting than I'd anticipated, but fun none the less...

13 Pictures taken with my new DSLR....

Dogs & Flowers

Scout

Jack

Jack (now obviously annoyed by
my photography)

One of my roses in my Valentine's Day bouquet
from Adam...isn't it still so beautiful!? Two weeks later!

Jack and his "baby"

Scout...Doesn't it look like he's smiling??

Another Valentine's Day rose...so beautiful!

A dried up hydrangea at the (un)botanical gardens.

Waiting for something exciting to happen outside.

Sweet Jack!

His eyes are so sweet. Scout's are too, they're just barely visible
these days because he has such a long winter coat!

Today, a list of 13 goals for my business in 2008:

  1. Make it to 100 Hearts on Etsy.
  2. Learn to use my new (coming in 3 weeks-ish) DSLR, and take better pictures of all of my items to post both on my website and on Etsy.
  3. List at least 2 items every week.
  4. Introduce at least one unique and new item per quarter.
  5. Watch the Etsy Treasury list long enough to actually get to make one!

  7. Keep immaculate records for 2008 for ALL sales!
  8. Keep up with all expenditures and receipts!
  9. Try to keep my crafting room clean and organized.

    1. Shelving for 12 x 12 papers
  11. Purchase or build a photo light tent to contribute to taking better item photos.
  12. Purchase one of the (hopefully) new Etsy print advertisements in a magazine.

thursday thirteen

I've been on a diet for about a month now. We are trying really hard to focus on healthy eating habits, and establish them early in our marriage, so that we can have a health-conscious family. It has been a tough adjustment, but a good one.

13 Foods I Miss Eating...

1. Totino's Oven Pizza
2. Macaroni & Cheese (which we have sometimes, in small portions)
3. Ore-Ida Oven French Fries
4. Handfulls of goldfish crackers (which, at our house, are now packaged in snack-sized bags)
5. Regular bread.
6. Cheese nachos
7. Chicken Express
8. Corny Dogs
9. Powdered Sugar Doughnuts
10. Ice Cream after dinner
11. Chips out of the bag
12. Reese's Cups
13. A Chili's Burger with seasoned fries.

My mouth is watering....yum. I really do feel better eating soups, salads, homemade pizzas, and grilled chicken than I did when I was eating the things off of that list.

Everything in moderation, right? Haha...

thursday thirteen: graduation edition

Tomorrow night, I will officially walk the stage at the University of Texas at Arlington as a college graduate. It seems totally unbelievable that I actually finished, considering the fact I never even wanted to go to college. So in honor of my graduating, I've decided to write this week's Thursday Thirteen on...

13 Things I Will Not Miss About Being A Student

1. Looking for a parking space for so long that I miss the first ten minutes of class.

2. Driving 35 minutes to and from school.

3. Walking miles across campus in rain, snow, sleet, and wind.

4. Eating my sack lunch in the U.C. while catching momentary glimpses of everyone else's pizza, Chick-Fil-A sandwiches, and candy bars.

5. Waiting endlessly for that one kid sitting next to me (in EVERY class) to stop asking the questions everyone already knows the answers to.

6. Waking up at the crack of dawn.

7. Carrying a 100 pound backpack.

8. Shopping for textbooks that, at times, really did cost more than my tuition.

9. Reading said textbooks.

10. Essay Questions.

11. Class presentations.

12. Group projects with people I've never spoken to, and probably never will again.

13. The toilets in the math building that are set up so high that my feet dangled.
